A Closer Look at Two Product Series
As production processes become increasingly complex, emissions regulations more stringent, and demand for energy efficiency continues to grow, industrial steam generators must combine high performance with environmental responsibility. This article presents two different approaches to industrial steam generation. 

CERTUSS offers two product series for steam generation: the fully electric EMX and the fuel-fired UMX series. While both systems are based on different technological concepts, they share a common objective: delivering high efficiency, operational reliability, and long-term viability for industrial steam generation. The fully electric EMX series combines sustainable technology with a compact design. Its footprint can be reduced by up to 25%, allowing easy integration even into facilities with limited plant room space (minimum doorway width: 80 cm). At the same time, its modular design enables flexible scalability to match varying steam demands, with configurations ranging from single units to multiple cascade systems. The EMX series is available in both stainless steel and carbon steel versions to suit different applications. It can also produce culinary steam using stainless steel models that meet the stringent requirements of the food and beverage industry. The fuel-fired UMX series has been completely redesigned. It is intended for applications where process steam must be available quickly and reliably. The system can operate on natural gas (NG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), or a combination of both fuels, providing flexibility in terms of energy supply and supply security. From a cold start, steam is available in less than five minutes. 

Infinitely Variable Output Control for Efficient Operation 
A key characteristic of both product lines is their high degree of factory integration. CERTUSS pre-installs major components at the factory, including a high-pressure feedwater pump, a robust hot water filter, and an automated system of control valves. The UMX series additionally features an integrated steam dryer to ensure high steam quality, while the EMX includes an integrated feedwater tank. An optional water treatment module is also available. The compact design and carefully planned internal layout ensure that all maintenance points are easily accessible. In addition, the UMX is equipped with an integrated chain hoist and ladder, making maintenance work both safer and more efficient. 

High Level of Factory Integration 
A key feature of both product lines is the high level of integration straight from the factory. Certuss relies on the factory pre-assembly of key components, including a high-pressure water pump, a robust hot-water filter and an automated system comprising various control valves. The UMX series also features an integrated steam dryer for high steam quality. The EMX features a feed water tank. A water treatment module is available as an option. The compact design with a well-thought-out internal layout ensures that all maintenance points are easily accessible. The UMX also features an integrated chain hoist and a ladder to make maintenance work as efficient and safe as possible. 

Advanced Control Technology 
Both systems are equipped with a multilingual human-machine interface (HMI). Steam pressure is controlled automatically, while integrated diagnostic and monitoring functions enhance operational safety. If required, customer support can connect remotely via the integrated remote service interface. The Condition Monitoring function provides real-time visualization of all operating parameters directly on site. The One View Control feature allows operators to determine the operating status of the system even from a considerable distance within the production area. Standard automatic operating modes—Thermotimat (EMX) and Thermotimat Plus (UMX)—enable the systems to adapt automatically to different operating conditions without manual intervention. 

Focus on sustainability 
The EMX operates entirely on electricity and produces no CO₂ or pollutant emissions, provided the electricity is sourced from renewable energy. The UMX series achieves NOx emissions below the statutory limits. Its comparatively low environmental impact results from the combination of intelligent burner technology, optimized airflow management, and precise control systems. 

Safety Comes First 
The safety equipment complies with current standards and, in some areas, exceeds regulatory requirements. Both systems are equipped with pressure limiters and pressure switches, temperature limiters for steam and flue gas, and dry-run protection with automatic low-water shutdown. The UMX also includes position monitoring for its pneumatic control valves. Filter systems for gas, combustion air, and feedwater ensure consistently high media quality while protecting technical components against contamination and failure. Integrated sensors continuously monitor the filter systems and notify operators via the touchscreen whenever cleaning is required.

Suitable for a Wide Range of Industries 
Both product series are suitable for a broad range of industrial applications, including the food and beverage industry, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and textile manufacturing. For applications with particularly stringent hygiene requirements—such as beverage production—both series are available in versions manufactured from foodgrade materials and capable of producing culinary-quality steam. 

Two Technologies, One Philosophy 
With their combination of compact design, modular construction, intelligent controls, high safety standards, and energy-efficient operation, the EMX and UMX series provide solutions that meet the demands of modern industrial processes. The EMX is particularly suited to companies focusing on energy independence and the electrification of production processes. The UMX series is designed for applications where rapid steam availability, flexible fuel options, and fast response times are the highest priorities.
