Generating steam sustainably

The new fully electric EMX series stands for consistently sustainable technology in a compact design. With a space requirement reduced by up to 25 per cent compared to conventional systems, it allows for easy integration – even in existing buildings with narrow technical rooms (door size: 80 cm). At the same time, the modular structure allows flexible scalability depending on steam requirements, with both single systems and multiple cascades possible. The EMX series supports both stainless steel and black steel variants, adapted to the respective application. The generation of culinary steam is also possible without any problems; only high-quality stainless steel designs that meet the requirements of the food and beverage industry are used for this purpose. The UMX series has been completely redesigned and offers a highly efficient, fuel-powered solution for all applications where process steam must be available quickly and reliably. It is designed to operate with natural gas (NG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or a combination of both fuels, thus enabling maximum flexibility in terms of energy supply and security of supply. The UMX series sets new standards, particularly in applications with discontinuous steam demand or frequent load changes.
The heating-up time from a cold start is less than five minutes – a significant advantage over conventional boiler systems with considerably longer start-up phases. Both the EMX and UMX feature infinitely variable power adjustment, which ensures demand-based steam supply while optimising energy consumption. While the EMX's electrical power control guarantees immediate response in continuous or partial load operation, the UMX series impresses with its fully modulating burner technology with a control ratio of 5:1. A speed-controlled combustion air fan and standard combustion air preheating enable optimised fuel utilisation with reduced energy consumption – without the need for additional insulation measures.

High integration density and ease of maintenance
A key feature of both product lines is the high level of integration ex works. The company consistently relies on factory pre-assembly of central components, including a high-pressure water pump, a robust hot water filter and a fully automated system of various control valves. The UMX series also features an integrated steam dryer to ensure maximum steam quality. A feed water tank is already installed in the EMX. An optional water treatment module also offers a turnkey solution here. These integrations not only significantly reduce commissioning time, but also reduce potential sources of error during installation. The compact design with a well-thought-out interior layout ensures that all maintenance points are easily accessible. The UMX also features an integrated chain hoist and ladder to make maintenance work as efficient and safe as possible.

Modern control system for maximum transparency
Both systems are equipped with a modern, user-friendly and multilingual HMI system that makes control easy. The steam pressure is regulated automatically, while integrated diagnostic and monitoring functions ensure additional operational reliability. If necessary, support can access the system via a remote service interface. The integrated condition monitoring allows local visualisation of all operating values in real time. The One View Control function allows the system status to be identified immediately – even from a greater distance within production areas. The standard Thermotimat (EMX) or Thermotimat Plus (UMX) automatic mode enables automatic adjustment to different operating modes without any manual intervention.

Eco-friendly and future-proof
Special attention was paid to environmental compatibility in both series. The EMX is fully electric and therefore produces no CO2 emissions or pollutants – provided that the power supply comes from renewable energy sources. The system thus makes a direct contribution to the decarbonisation of industrial steam generation. The UMX series, in turn, impresses with its particularly low emissions balance. NOx emissions are well below the legally required limits, making the system a future-proof investment even in regions with strict regulations. This low environmental impact is the result of a combination of intelligent burner technology, optimised air flow and precise control technology. The safety equipment of both systems complies with current standards and exceeds them in many areas. The systems are equipped with pressure limiters and switches, temperature limiters for steam and flue gas, and dry-running protection with automatic low water shut-off. The UMX also has integrated position monitors for the pneumatic control valves. Filter systems for gas, combustion air and feed water ensure consistently high quality of the media used and provide lasting protection for the technical components against contamination and failure. The sensor technology continuously monitors the filter systems and provides timely information about necessary cleaning via the touch display.

Conclusion: two technologies, one philosophy
With its combination of compact design, modular construction, intelligent control, high safety standards and efficiency, Certuss offers two technologically advanced systems in its EMX and UMX series that fully meet the requirements of modern industrial processes. The EMX is aimed in particular at companies with a focus on energy self-sufficiency and electrified production. The UMX series is ideal for applications where maximum availability, flexible fuel use and short response times are paramount. Both systems deliver a reliable, sustainable and economically viable solution for steam generation – developed and manufactured in Germany.
